NCFILMCONNECTION.COM is now live and ready for usage…

I guess it’s now time to let the cat out of the bag, in a manner of speaking.  For the last few months I have been talking with many local film makers and we’ve been toying around with the idea to start an online bulletin board where people making films in North Carolina can come together and do what they love, make films.  I cannot tell you how many people I’ve met or chatted with in the last year that have no clue about others around them with the same passion to create yet think they are all alone in this big state.

The one important aspect about this project is that it is intended to be dynamic.  This is something new for a lot of us and and where or how this will impact projects will certainly drive the features and content that we encourage or allow.  Many people right now spend many hours working with Craig’s List, Myspace, Facebook, and many other online social networking sites trying to find people to act, write, film, record, dp, produce, invest, etc.  While these avenues are and will remain important to connections especially outside the state, we can certainly focus more internally so that people with particular skills needed by others have a connection point.  It’s really that simple.

This state is beautiful, hands down, and there is an absolute diversity of locations from the mountains to the coast.  Not to mention, everything in between.  Asylum Studio Productions is hosting this board free to all as my way of saying thanks to the wonderful people I’ve met and worked with in this state.  As many other sites have done, I have added Google Adsense ads to the bottom of the board in the hopes that through a small format of advertising, it can eventually pay for itself.  Regardless, it will always remain free and open to those making films in North Carolina.

With sites like this, it is certainly an all or nothing project.  Given that I am just now opening up the site to more public usage, I urge everyone to work with it and get others interested.  If you don’t use it, no one else will.  Start getting your dialog to happen there in terms of finding people to do things.  Post an update or synopsis of your latest project.  Know someone looking for work?  Have them post as to what kind of project they are looking to work on.  Think something is missing?  Tell me!  And we’ll talk about it and try and get it up there as soon as possible.  This is not just for me, this is for you!

I’ve also had some business cards made that I will be giving out to those around me to give to others to start passing the word.  If you’d like to create your own cards, let me know, I’ll give you the PSD files so you can take what you want and discard what you don’t.  I should have them by the end of next week.  They look like this:

Of course, I got them glossy so I will be experimenting on how to actually write on them.  Yes, I picked look over function, but I am sure I will find something that works.  I actually recommend people use stickers that they can print on to which I think would be the best bet.

I’m also bringing on Andy Coon from All Aces Media as an admin for the site as me and him have spent many an hour discussing the pros and cons of all other sites that exist out in the ether.  At the end of the day we knew we needed to start with something, and this is that something.

Also, as a suggestion, I recommend putting videos on Vimeo and linking/embedding them in your posts.  I am sure over the next few weeks we will start putting together some guidelines that will show up as stickies at the tops of the forums.  I have also toyed with the idea of creating sub-forums for individual projects, if this is something that interests you, let me know.  I shied away from it initially because of the work setting up the forums and such, however, we could possibly script a lot of that.  We’ll probably make a suggestions forum so people can share their ideas on how we can make this site better for everyone.

I’ll be putting together an email as well over the next few days so some of you will get this again in a different form announcing it’s existence.  Also, do you run a blog?  Do you have friends you know that are into or want to get into film?  Film students?  If you wouldn’t mind, post a note about this site or pass it along to them.

Hopefully tomorrow there will be more than 2 users like there are now!
